IndiaRAP plans taking shape with AITD

Improving road safety performance is a big focus of the India Government and Transport Minister, Hon. Nitin Gadkari. In meetings with iRAP CEO Rob McInerney he reinforced his commitment to passing critical traffic safety laws for the country and discussed the upcoming launch of a locally led IndiaRAP programme.

IndiaRAP will be led by the Asian Institute of Transport Development, a local non-profit organization that is a leader in transport policy, research and capacity building. Alison Leeson, a volunteer from the Australian road agency VicRoads who has generously supported her 6 month secondment to iRAP, has helped shape the partnership in conjunction with the World Bank and MoRTH.

Details of how best the IndiaRAP initiative can support and enhance the road safety efforts of key stakeholders across India has been the focus of discussions in India that has included the AITD, MoRTH, the Indian Road Congress, NHAI, IIT and CRRI amongst others.
